"But whoso hath this world's good and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?"
1 St. John 3:17

Fr. Scott's sermon tied together the Epistle and Gospel Lesson for this past Sunday. He started by reminding us the New Testament was written 2000 years ago in a very different culture with very different literary traditions such as 'bowels of compassion'. We need to transport ourselves back in time to understand what the authors are teaching us. In this Sunday's lesson, John is telling us, as Christians, to practice Biblical love defined as self sacrifice for God and others. Fr. Scott suggests we start practicing with the people currently in our lives and move out from there. The Gospel Lesson reminds us that we are like the people who have accepted the invitation to the feast (salvation) but are now making excuses to not attend. If we fail to have faith & trust in God or fail to love all our neighbors, we are making excuses!
Fr. Scott's complete sermon may be found at the following link:
Thank you, Fr. Scott, for the wonderful sermon!
Please note:
Fr. Scott & family will be on vacation from July 2-9. On Sunday, July 3 we will have Morning Prayer at 11:00am led by Mike and Scott.

A note from Bishop Jones:

On this Feast of the Nativity of Saint John Baptist, on which the Supreme Court of the United States returned the abortion issue to the decision of the States, may Christians everywhere resolve to embrace in a renewed way our responsibility for the care of all unborn children and their mothers - which responsibility demands our own commitment and sacrifice for their sake. United to the sufferings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, may we seek to restore a culture of life, love, and family in this nation.

Sue is leading a book reading and study from "Your Healing Is Within You" by the Anglican Bishop Jim Glennon. We will meet before Holy Communion services between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on July 17, July 24, and July 31. Sue advises this is not a "new age" book, but rather presents an Anglican view and teaching about praying for divine healing. The book itself is out of print, but used copies are available on the internet (amazon, etc). Sue has several copies, but depending on how many people come, we may need a few more - so please let Sue know if you are planning to attend so she can work out the number of books needed. Please contact Sue if you have any questions or need more information. Thank you Sue for leading this study!
